Editorial: Progenitor diversity and neural cell specification in the central nervous system
Costa MR (2015) Editorial: Progenitor diversity and neural cell specification in the central nervous system. The central nervous system (CNS) harbors an enormous diversity of neuronal and glial cell types, which can be identified according to morphological, chemical, and electrical properties. This variety of cell types is generated from progenitor cells located in different germinative niches,...
متن کاملRegulation of Progenitor Cell Proliferation and Neuronal Differentiation in Enteric Nervous System Neurospheres
Enteric nervous system (ENS) progenitor cells isolated from mouse and human bowel can be cultured in vitro as neurospheres which are aggregates of the proliferating progenitor cells, together with neurons and glial cells derived from them. To investigate the factors regulating progenitor cell proliferation and differentiation, we first characterised cell proliferation in mouse ENS neurospheres ...
متن کاملNeural Progenitor Cell Polarity and Cortical Development
Neurons populating the cerebral cortex are generated during embryonic development from neural stem and progenitor cells in a process called neurogenesis. Neural stem and progenitor cells are classified into several classes based on the different location of mitosis (apical or basal) and polarity features (bipolar, monopolar and non-polar). The polarized architecture of stem cells is linked to t...
متن کاملAlterations in neural cell adhesion molecules during development of different regions of the nervous system.
Several cell adhesion molecules involved in neuron-neuron and neuron-glia interactions have been identified in our laboratory and have been shown to undergo cell surface modulation. In the case of the neural cell adhesion molecule (N-CAM), it has been found that during development the molecule is converted from a microheterogeneous embryonic (E) form containing 30 gm of sialic acid/100 gm of po...
